Holding period checker
Thinking of selling? Check whether the gain counts as short-term or long-term, and the first date it flips.
Starts at today. Change it to test a future date.
Add a vest date and we will check the holding period.
The maths
The tool adds 24 months to your vest date. A sale after that date is long-term, and a sale on or before it is short-term. It also shows the first date a sale would be long-term.
Quick answers
When does the holding period start?
For RSU shares, guides count it from the vesting date, because that is when the shares are treated as acquired.
Why 24 months?
Shares of US-listed companies are not listed on an Indian exchange, so guides treat them as unlisted securities in India, which use a 24-month threshold.
